Hacking passwords

I know you don't need a certain software to hack into the computer itself (just the IP address), but what certain software do you need in order to hack someone's password on an account they have. ie: Facebook

An Internet browser and a *lot* of patience... a ten-character alphanumeric password has 839299365868340224 possibilities!
