Bot Rankings

Post by adum »

the current system, which may well be replaced, is a basic ladder. a new bot gets added at the bottom when it is first submitted. random matches get played all the time between bots next to eachother in the ladder. whoever wins moves up, or retains their spot if they were already on top.

currently, a match is best of 15.

we're welcome to better ideas: round robins, ELO ratings, etc. especially tricky for the future will be combat between more than two bots at once.

i've moved the ranking system over to Elo. this should probably be more fair, as well as having all sorts of other benefits.

i've updated the ELO ratings to base the adjustment factor K on the number of games played. specifically, it's:

K = 10 * 2 / (2 * sqrt(numBattles))

so the ratings will change more gradually over time.

submitting a new bot version will reset the number of games and the ratings will shift quickly again.
