Challenge Map doesn't work

Post by therethinker »

I've been using Fx 3b5 to do all the challenges up to this point. I normally use Epiphany 2.22 (uses gecko 1.9), but it never worked.

Now, it doesn't even work on Fx 3b5.

I got it working in Fx 3 RC 2/3, but it should still be fixed. ;-)

The map viewer is a flash app written with Flex 3.0. As such, the browser version should not matter much, as long as the flash plugin works well. Can you describe what problem you're having exactly?

I love my Epiphany! -- but I had Fx3 b5 just to test out the new version... it is a heckava lot better than 2, but I still won't switch! :P

The background map itself displays fine, but the paths & points don't appear.

That might be because you were not logged in. The flash app uses an HTTP request to get the challenge data for your account. If you're not logged in, the server won't return the data, but the app is not sophisticated enough to display that error condition. You can checked if you have logged in from that browser by accessing a different puzzle on the site.

Sometimes I have problems with mozilla too but not always, IE 7 definitely never works but Opera 9.5 always does and I find it more confortable to do a lot of searching.
Try it out

The map loads for me, but I click the start button, and even tried the others, I'm logged in, but nothing happens.

www. issues

If you're logged in on "www.hacker.org" it's clear that the challenge map doesn't work when you access it on "hacker.org". but even if you're logged in on "hacker.org" it doesnt work.
(yep, you can login twice, with and without www.)
a further proof that www. fails :)

hmmm, what about a refresh data button in the map, so it doesnt need to reload everything and the image (2.7 MiB)?

Agreed. The image seems to be 80-90% of the loading time..

the image should be cached, and only have to load once. i definitely see that behavior on my machines.
