Stumped. Royally. Looking for a small hint to get me going in the right direction...But I don't want the answer handed to me.

i think the musical notes in the mp3 is the answer.i.e combination of 'abcdefg' but the answer is not yet known, still working on this.

That's what I thought too. I tried using a nifty piece of software to pick out each note, and either the program didn't get it right, or that wasn't it. I dl'd the mp3, and put it on my ipod so i can listen to it while playing different notes on a keyboard...We'll see where that leads me.

I used goldwave to analyze the frequencies and looked up the notes on a frequency table online.

goldwave is free to download and just has some annoying "please buy me" windows. But works to get the job done.

Could always learn the FFT and code the wave -> frequency transformation

but that was a bit much.

Don't forget you can use your ears to. If you know the first note then transcribe the rest of the melody and play it on the piano

I've used the following Flash piano, which has the notes conveniently written on the keys:

hmm, I'm quite sure I got the right notes but don't know what to do now...
the notes do not form a word
convert hex to ascii produces nonsense
convert hex to dec and then use the position in the alphabet produces nonsense too
the sum of the gaps between the notes is not the right answer
what else can I do?

/me just wasted half an hour with a note→frequency table, audiacity's zoom tool and ruler and a calculator… Especially frustrating if you repeatedly get frequencies that are excactly between notes.

Gotta admire the human ear for dealing with this mess (if properly trained)
