Open Source Domination

Post by dorahan »

In the future, who will have more power in public users and markets? Commercial Software or Open Source Software?

As you know, the Open Source Software is a software which can be edited. And it's legal. Many people prefer to use open source because it's free. So, they don't have to spend much money to buy an expensive copyrighted software. And now, the open source softwares are as good as the commercial software.

In other point of view, hackers get money from create a software. Hackers create a software to get money to survive their life, and to earn their family. Nowadays, open source software is booming. In China, open source software like Linux was adopted as the national standard OS in 2000. And in many sides of the world, open source is getting more and more famous.

All that i want to ask to all of you is if the open source become famouse until almost all people in the world use open source software, from what the hackers get money to live? Honestly, if you have created a awesome program, would you like to spread the source of it to the public for free? And the last question is what's you opinion, who will be used more in the future, open source or commercial?

thanks for you opinion. Let's discuss in peace.

Commercial software doesn't exclude free software.

You can make free software and get paid for it. I intend to do so.

Not as much as the Commercial software. You will have to rely on the provider for the income that you require to make open source software, but it is unreliable.

What do you mean? I think that free software is a software which is distributed free of charge. So, how can you get money from creating a free software? Please notice that free software is different with freeware. If you create a free software, it means you are not paid even for a cent.

Freeware is what is distributed for zero cost.

Free software is software for which you have the freedom to view the source/modify/redistribute. Freeware doesn't include the source and is therefore shitty and suspect.

You can sell free software and there are companies that make money doing so. Not many companies, but they do exist.

A large number of skilled hackers are employed working on free software. Linus Torvalds doesn't starve. Alan Cox manages a living. Miguel de Icaza is not without a home.

I don't see it as a competition between non-zero price and zero price. I see it as a competition between freedom to modify and a lack of the freedom to modify. And in almost all situations, the software where there is no freedom to modify is exceedingly shitty.

wow... thanks for your opinion... you gave me a lot of inspiration... I do like open source software.. But i confused on from what the creators get money... Now, i don't confuse anymore.. ^^v

Oh.. one more thing. Just to ensure you that free software is distributed without the source.. But free software may be copied or sold to other people.. If a software is distributed with the source and people may modify it and it's legal, so the software is belong to open source software category..

Thanks for your comment, canine.
