As you say, regardless of the order ("way") you click, the "sol" parameters will be the same if you choose the same buttons. That's because the order doesn't matter on solving this puzzle.
The parameter is a sequence of "0"s and "1"s. A "0" means that the corresponding button is not clicked (or canceled by clicking twice), and a "1" means clicked. When the size of the board is X*Y, the length of the parameter must be also X*Y, regardless of how many buttons are actually on the board. You need to specify a "0" for an empty button. The buttons are in order of up to down, and left to right in each line.
So, if you click [2,1] and [0,1] on a 3x3 board, then the answer is: 000101000
