If i were you guys i would start as a skiddie and move upwards.
The whole "system" is a number of people creating a code all together, this code loops and is there for a "system".
System Zero could also be confirmed with one word "Hacker's"

Well, as the first serious poster, I can sorta explain it like this:

Hacking is wanting to manipulate a computer to do what you like (in essence), right?

Well to get something to do what you like, you have to understand how it works on it's own, as a computer IS just a bunch of inputs, with outputs based on the inputs. (again, just in essence).

Best place to start is to learn a programming language or if you really get lost, try a crash course in computers to get started I suppose. From there, there is no real next step. It's kinda like go wherever you want from there, and try to have fun.

Hardware: doesn't matter.
Programs: You make them, that's the point kinda. Well, the programming portion anyway.
Basics: Learn a language, doesn't get much more basic. Then UNDERSTAND IT.
Software: Just the programming language you intend to learn.

Ta-dah?

Hardware does matter, at least to an extent. I wish I was more up to date with my hardware knowledge.

Knowledge of it, yes, but I think he was asking if you needed a specific type of hardware, which I'm pretty sure you don't :3

In that case I retract my statement.

if you want to be specific about hardware you could say that x86(-64) architecture is something worth knowing the basics of for reverse engineering and exploiting software, which you should pick up fairly easily from basic assembly tutorials which might not be the best starting place for someone getting into computing but good once you've got started
