McCormick

Post by mcjohn »

Hey guys, I'm having trouble solving the challenge McCormick (the crypto challenge with letters: f,m,p only). I'm sure "McCormick" is a big clue and a google search shows it can be many things like a restaurant, distilling company, tractor manufacturer, church, convention center, painting company, communications consulting firm, etc. Any hints on what "McCormick" in this challenge refers to?

Thanks

Hi,
as you mentioned, there are many things that have something to do with McCormick so google can't help you unless you can spot the right result when it turns up. The origin of this cipher is a phonetic one, which is not how the cipher works in this case (this cipher somehow evolved from the original one to make it more useful for general purposes) the original cipher has alot more variables to it making it probably impossible to decipher it using a computer ... but still its origins are no doubt phonetic.

By the way ... that might not help you, but this cipher (the original) was invented in the late 90s ... the context it was used in was somehow controversial ... .
Ok, thats it ... all I said is true ... still it might not help you ... anyways ... thats what can be given away without giving too much away.

Have fun !

Hey, I immediately had to think about Kenny McCormick from the south park series, because he always speaks so muffled.
But I have no clue how this could help solving the challenge...

You're pretty close... I even think, you should change your posting a bit because
you nearly posted the solution...

You don't need to know the origin to solve this... (I had no idea until now what the origin was)

As you suggest... maybe I know the topic to good (both ways). I didn't need to think a second and solved the challenge 5 sec later.

Hint: The complete information given has a relatively low complexity level.

moderators should edit most of the hints given on this page, it is way too easy like that, although a very funny challenge!
