I've done some cleanup of this forum, due to the large number of spambots that created accounts and posted spam.
Thanks to Adam, we now have an updated registration page that will, we hope, keep hackers in and spambots out (the builtin picture challenge of phpBB seems quite ineffective against the spam bots).

I like the filtering system for registering new users. I would, however, remove the option to register after completing a puzzle or two. (I didn't actually do the puzzle whatevers so I don't know the actual process but..)

Don't you think that would help filter out the really new people so only at least those with basic HTML knowledge would be able to register. If you're looking to participate in a hacking oriented website, I would hope you would at least know a little HTML...

If you want to filter on something a little more meaningfull you need a C test, or perhaps C++, or some nice scripting language like Python or bash.

Well, if someone doesn't know HTML then they probably won't know C or Python, now will they? Myself as an example: I don't know any C nor do I care to learn but I do believe I may have a thing or two to contribute to this forum.

I know you don't have to know a bit of HTML to be a 'hacker' but that's generally where people start, at the beginning of some type of programming. If not, the filtering system of this forum would not be in place if someone didn't think it would help keep the bots and n00bs out, right? Why have it at all if it has nothing to do with hacking? The registration line even reads: "Submit how? Prove your basic hacking skills to get an account."

You don't need to know HTML to solve the registration puzzle.

Just for the record, HTML is a markup language, not a programming language.


If you want a beginner's programming language try PASCAL, or BASIC(one of the old versions, not Visual Basic). Matlab is also a good first programming lanuage, although I'd recomend to be a man and go for C at once.

Ok, to be most fair, the user trying to register in these forums would also need to know a little PHP, which is a programming language. At the very least an understanding of what happens when you press the 'submit' button (that had been removed).

I'd suggest Perl or Python myself.

Ho, hum. No, it doesn't. The actual form submission has nothing to do with PHP but the entire process does require you to know something about PHP as it requires a valid session id to register successfully. Good lord, anything else for me?

Hi guys... I think I have some Luck coming in here...
You see, i try to figure it out to register, and i end it up successful after trying 1 day....

The problem is, i can't do it again...

May be i need some more training...

Know some programing language is the basic skill to be a hacker;;but it is no need to know html when register;

Hi! I've just registered, and I don't think that having been able to register (even if it took me some minutes to decide to RTFInstructions ) gives me something to brag about. Nonetheless, it seems a nice/funny/original way to keep bots and lusers away.

I guess/hope I'll have a nice time here!
