Mobile broadband tweak?

I'm really unsure on how the GPRS and 3G nets work.

Anyway, I use one of these mobile broadband. I don't really know if those are common in other countries.
It connects by GPRS or (in my case) HDSPA to one of those phoneposts.

My problem is that, even though I got an 8MBit-connection to the Internet, I can't connect to more than six peers at a time. (Which is useless for example torrenting)
What I want to know is if this limitation is in the software, the modem, or the phonepost, and if someone got a slightest idea on how to remove the limit.

(I got a Huawie USB modem, with Huawei Technologies' software for connection, Mobile connect.)
