Little bit of UNIX

Post by Ixian »

Hello,

I've recently started working on the "Hack this site" missions and have found my knowledge of UNIX embarrassingly lacking. Anyone have some good UNIX resources for me to brush up with? I can use UNIX, but never got into anything more advanced than the basics before now and google seems to be interested in helping by only providing basics tutorials no matter what I type in for my search.

Thanks,
-Ix

You wanna learn UNIX? The best (and perhaps, the only) way to learn something is by practice. UNIX itself is a very expensive system, but there's an alternative: Linux, which is the free OS based on Linux. There's a way how to use it without installing it.
More info you'll find here: http://tha-hell-hackers.php5.cz/linux.html
And if you'll have questions about Linux/Hacking, ask here: http://tha-hell-hackers.php5.cz/forum/index.php

Already have and use linux, but I'm not that advanced yet and could really use some advice as to where I can go to learn more advanced uses for it. Plus learning how to get past Basic 7 on Hack this site would be good too >.>

If you already have Linux, you should work with that more... You should understand how it works... Try working in a text mode, it will give you some ideas what is Linux itself, what are GUIs and how they work.
