If I'm looking at a 494 page document from 1981, am I on the right track?

It's quite a lot of possibilities to interpret the thing with such a vague topic.

I'd like to get some hints :]

1. Is it about punched cards at all?

2. Does it have to do with assembly instructions for machined DEC ever produced?
If yes, they've made a lot of stuff: PDP-*, VAX, ALPHA, MIPS and even ARMv4.

It is actually much easier than you might think of it. As a hint you can take a look at challenge category, it says crypto, so you shouldn't mess with instructions, it is more about text encoding. But DEC computers are the clue, thats true!

I see that this is one of the challenges for which no thread exists in the "Challenges Solved" section. Could you please check if you are allowed to create a new thread there? I am not sure whether the forum software allows normal users to do that.

I am not able to create the thread "Playing with the full DEC", but I was able to make "Such Much?" one.

It says "Thread already exists".
