First off to get started you should learn a computer programming language i recommend C to start with and then C++

This will help you learn to exploit programs

Then check out some of these sites

hackthissite.org

irongeek.com

these sites have tutorials and challenges to help you learn hacking

Make sure you only use these for legal use...ok?

im sure some will argue with me that irongeek is not v ery helpful but i think it is

Feel free to add to this as i don't know how you people learned...

I'm starting to think that a sticky should be put up titled "Where to start." And the content roughly be as koolpop0 put it.

Well no offense to whoever runs this site, but is it time that maybe some of us put together a new site maybe? A new project? I know I've been here only a short while, but the people here who do have something worthwhile to say spend it all on telling bots and nubs to bug off. Maybe something more progressive is in order? Again I'm new here so I'm just tossing this out on the floor for deliberation. Just a thought.

well at the end of the day this is a challenge site. if you head to wechall.net or hackergames.net you will find hundreds more.

There are already enough out there, so I doubt any more are needed.

If you mean create a 'hackers hangout' or security forum then there are enough of those too.

I wouldn't go that far.
Maybe some new anti retard security measures.

*offers to code them*

The only thing that is going to cut out all the bullshit here is to have a moderator warn and remove these posts, and boot the idiots that keep posting them. Of course the admin of the site doesn't seem interested in adding some forum moderators to this part of the site. I'm not sure why because there is a major lack of order among these forums, of course as sabre said this is mainly a challenge site and I feel like this was a project that bok and adum started, got tired of, but left the site up because of others interest and probably to keep the little bit of funds they have coming in from ads.

If they were here and had some moderators at the very least, then that would be all well and good and that would be fine by me as with everyone else. What is the probability it'll actually happen? If it doesn't, just seems like this site will continue to decline. The content is great. Challenges are great. Games are great. Just no management/moderation. Way I figure... if something isn't working, try something new. Not do something new for the sake of doing something new, but do something new because something needs to change... if that makes sense where I'm going.

Again, if adum and bok, make someone a mod or admin or whatever, then great. Just wondered more so if anyone here had considered it. Just curious. No worries.

then why do we have this forum?

i mean... "How to hack" is a broad section and most first glance people will click on it praying someone will just show them how to hack...

if this is a challenge site like he said then clearly this forum is completely useless

i am surprised by how many people post forums about asking for learning. there is a site called Google.com you should check it out. you can just post a question about (how to be a programmer) or (how to hack) and it will explain to you everything.
and why did someone say in the beginning of the forum that (fuck Bill Gates)?
Bill Gates created Microsoft Windows! if it wasn't for him, then the computers that you were using right now would crash in 10 days minimum, and the programs would be very unstable. Bill Gates is a very good person.

True true Bill gates did contribute but he cannot take all the credit (i support bill gates a lot)
