I have done that already. When I was working on this challenge a year ago, I had found some MIDI player that could also nicely visualize the notes. Unfortunately I don't have it installed anymore and don't know the name of it :-(

Anyway, going by the name of this challenge, we are to look at chromatic scales. And if we do so we notice that the scales given here in this MIDI file are incomplete. Some notes are missing in-between. That's why I think that the information is encoded there somehow. But maybe I am wrong altogether, or maybe I am not completely wrong but there is also other information in the file that needs to be considered.

It is called MidiEditor.

I'm afraid there's no hidden information. As I can see in the screenshot MidiEditor shows all you need for the next step.

P.S.: The key for solving the challenge is not to use keys.
