a. a computer enthusiast.
b. a microcomputer user who attempts to gain unauthorized access to proprietary computer systems.
it can be both
wikipedia.org http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cracker wrote:in computing, cracker may refer to a black hat computer hacker
still refers as a hacker..cracker is a nickname
urbandictionary.com http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=hacker wrote:Black-hat (hacking to find exploits and system weaknesses, see cracker
yet again "hacker" is the general collection..cracker is just short for blackhat
dictionary.com http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/cracker wrote:The term was coined ca. 1985 by hackers in defence against journalistic misuse of "hacker".
like i said..it was created because of a misuse of "hacker", framing ethical hackers as well as malicious hackers

using hacker for both ethical and malicious is the literal correct way
using cracker for malicious is the "jargon" or "slang" that has been adapted..however only hackers use the word cracker...it was established in 1985 and hackers are still framed just as much..if not more..so what was the point in the first place
and even regardless..we all learn from the same place..the same stuff..just use it a different way, we are doing the same thing..thus we are all hackers regardless of motive

and even more! there are a group of people that crack software in which is normally paid for. those should be given the name crackers. hence they "crack the code"

dude it doesn't matter what the interwebs say, take it from REAL hackers, hackers are NOT malicious. the people who infiltrate banks to steal money and otherwise are CRACKERS and should be referred to as such from now on. thanks. thats why we complain about being misconstrued and misunderstood, because of what the interwebs and people like you say. please try to be a bit more open minded.

thanks

I am teaching him currently. I am by under WhiteKnight authority as a real certified ethical hacker and currently is my mentor.

runaway robot in no way makes you a hacker. im not claiming to be an expert hacker, im claiming that idiots and assholes are in no way on the right track. if you want, ill do the puzzle but that won't prove a thing. i just find the puzzles pointless. the challenges i hardly bother but ive done some of them. hacking is more a way of thinking that actually knowing the technical stuff if you ask me, since just having the knowledge but the wrong ideals makes you a CRACKER. I'm not speaking out of authority to them in any way, i'm speaking out of being the angriest ranter of the group as far as i know :3

besides, note how everyone else does the same? why did you specifically target me with this?

...fair enough... and i specifically target you because you are the angriest ranter :) as you said... but i guess someones got to do it. at least you know the idea of hacking
and puzzles dont make you a hacker... but a hacker should be able to do them

YES. MORE INFO IS GOOD.

how much do i know......more than likely it's less than it appears. lets just say.....im more wise than knowledgeable, if you get my drift

i do dabble in web hacking (non black hat of course)
the only things i ever do to ACTUAL web pages is make em do "flips" ( any neat little non illegal trick) , and only for the lulz.

learning a bit of C# off berry, DOS (blah everyone knows DOS), python (it was fun while it lasted), a bit of javascript, etc.etc.

you know, bits here and there. jack of all trades, master of none they say T.T
