hacker is a life style. its one that alters how you think, you perception of reality, your way of dealing with things in general, as well as things so common as how you talk, how you carry yourself, and even when and how long you sleep.

Anyway...
"There is a lot of research going on at this very moment that will someday lead to "curing" aging. "
i'm afraid this 'someday' won't be in so forseeable future... imho science, nowadays, is a big business, and "scientists" don't care much about research... and these who care, are oppressed by these, who have power and money - government, different agencies such as FDA, and so on...
and as a result, scientific discovery, that will lead to more than 2 minutes story on CNN, takes huge amount of time...

I never became a paying member, but have known some of the people since 2003. I believe aging won't be cured completely anytime soon, but technology to put it under heavy control is about 30 years away at the most. You are right about the science, but the outlook is starting to look better on that front. Nanotechnology is now a multibillion dollar industry (although crude at this point), is showing results, and is receiving billions of dollars in government funding every year.
More people are becoming open to the idea that true artificial intelligence is possible (whether we can do it is a big question). I definitely don't believe the general public and even most technology people will believe any of this stuff for awhile until big companies start making more ridiculous TV ads like this one.

Well, I have never been in doubt whether true AI is possible or not... how people think? in the brain there's also electrical signal - impulses, just like in computer... the rest is a very complicated system of programs, that control everything... for example, random numbers... try to generate random numbers with your head, not thinking about anything, and do it very fast... if you will see some number around you, you'll pick it up.. next you'll probably want to use the same number, or take bigger/smaller number... it depends on way of how you're thinking, which also depends on different things... there's no true randomness... everything depends on something, for everything there's a logical explanation, algorithm, which means, it can be programmed, even with already existing programming languages like C++, ASM and so on...Allosentient wrote:I never became a paying member, but have known some of the people since 2003. Creating such a thing is a matter of time - there will be more than few MBs of code... maybe more than few GBs... but again, creating something like this needs the huge team of experts... and this means money... and so unless someone, who has money, knows for sure that AI will make him the most rich man in the world, it won't be done...
Talking about the Morph: Nokia will do something like this, maybe later than 2014, but yeah... why? because it's gonna bring a lot of money to them... did you see this comments on youtube? people already want it, and they will buy it, as soon, as it is available...
btw, check out this...
In the brain? Maybe... but, right now, that is not quite true at a more physical (quantum mechanics, and QFTs in general) and genetic (mutations and the crossover in the DNA duplication process, but i have only a high-school level biology education so i am no expert in this field) level.... there's no true randomness...
Some even think that the brain act like a quantum computer, others says that that is impossible because of decoherence... but this is too a field in which i have too little knowledge to express myself
