Hacker points are awareded as follows: players are ranked from top to bottom in order of the sum of the squares of the difficulty of challenges solved. (This encourages solving of more difficult challenges.) The top solver gets 200 points, the next (200 * 0.9), the next (200 * 0.9 * 0.9) and so on.
Also if for example you finish Runaway Robot(get it to level 513) you get 100 points.

In a strictly nonsensical way.LocoTom wrote:how exactly does the scoring system work?
Your global score is based on your rankings in the Challenges section, the two bot wars and the eight different puzzles.
If you're ranked at Position R in the Challenges section you're attributed 200*(0.96^(R-1)) global points. Adum changed the factor in the formula from 0.9 to 0.96 at some point. For every bot war and puzzle you get global points as follows: 100*(0.9^(R-1)). So you get eleven summands which are added together to form the global score.
That means you can lose points if somebody supersedes you in one of the competitions on this site.
Right now the global score is messed up slightly because recent changes in Bitbath and Wormageddon are not incorporated into the global score. Most notably cutter is missing 72 global points.
