I used the "Fill With Color"-function in MS Paint.

I wrote a code to replace both colors by white or black and thus read the word.

Like killing an ant with a hammer :P

perfectly readable without manipulating anything if you look at it from the right angle

On my laptop, somehow not really. I used Paint Shop Pro to fiddle with the brightness/contrast, and after trying different settings for some minutes, I was eventually able to read it.

It's nice that there are still some easy challenges now, I also just used mspaint.

javascript + canvas rocks ... :P ... not the first challenge where this combination was really helpful for me :)
