Any advice?

Post by Xenorosth »

Unfortunatly, due to a child block (crazed parents... fun...>.<),there is no way for me to get any tools to help me program. Everything and I mean EVERYTHING was all done in my head. But I know this could only get me so far.

I've seen level high scores of 1000 and I know there is NO way I can do all of these that fast, and most of these puzzles get tough really quick (Like modulo). Though I have done okay this way, I want to know, where do I go now?

Your next challenge is to talk to your parents and tell them to let you do things.

or

Get past the child blocks.

Talking to my parents is like talking to a brick wall :P And this child block is from what I have heard one of the hardest to crack. I'd have to get the admin password, and every way to get it I know of is blocked.

What is the name and version of this child lock + what exactly does it block, is it just webpages, downloads of any type and does it stop you from running .exes or installing things? You could get yourself a Linux livedisk and do whatever using that (with USB sticks for storage) to bypass the whole operating system but I doubt you'll really want to do that.

You could be rather sly about this and get the password from your parent's by 'simulating' a situation that would require them to enter the password such as entering a password to get to a page that you need for homework on the internet. You can do the 'simulation' by making a screenshots of the situation that would require the password and then making a page in HTML around them, I doubt it would block you saving a .html (just a txt file really with a different extension) and a PNG/JPEG from paint which is all you need to make this.

If you can run random .exes from somewhere like a usb or HDD then you could run some keylogger to avoid the 'simulating' thing as you wouldn't have to make a HTML lookalike. The other possibility is that the program has some form of weakness that makes it crashable (my parents for a short time had some software like this on my computer years ago as they were trying to curb my 65hour/week gaming tendencies, but I just crashed the software and could do whatever again  ) which you might just be able to play around with and find out what makes it crash or there could be some .exe to crash it, can't really say if that's the case at the moment as I don't know what it is yet :P

The block is called Kidswatch, and it blocks some downloads, some sites, restricts my time online, and overall. It blocks DOS and anything that I could use to change my settings, as well as some exe files. I want to become a better programmer (which is why Im taking programming 1 in school :P ) and the fact I can't get any type of software for programming really doesnt help.

from a quick search on google it appears the best way to stop Kidswatch from running is to turn of your computer, but I doubt that is an acceptable solution so you really should try reasoning with your parents as it would be fairly unreasonable for them to deny you things like compilers + interpreters if it's something you want to learn as it can be a very helpful thing to know, if they decide to be awkward about it you might have to invest in a laptop. What is it it that they are trying to stop from happening? If they just want to stop you going on porn all day long then you should ask them to ease up the restrictions so it's just the web blocking for the exact content they disprove of instead of slashing up what you can do all together. Probably not exactly the answer you were looking for but doesn't look like you have too many options.

If they're anything like my parents, you'll have have to dumb things down for them so they really understand what "compiler", "IDE", "etc" mean. The more they are able to understand, the more capable they are of making reasonable decisions.
