Keep Digging

Took me few days to solve this, and still don't really know why the solution is the solution.

Was it encoded in the picture or is "Keep digging, watson" just a 'common' phrase (had to google it)?

what i read is that it should be a clue to vitally important case. Sounds like CSI. If i had to solve it in time, I'd have failed. did not find the answer so far, too.

What i found out is that the text is from the old testamant, the fifth book, deuteronomy.

The sentences match the following phrases of that book:

20:9

but i have no idea what to do with this...

Thought about coding first. But then i found a faster solution using excel: I mad two lists, first one with numbers from 1 to 2118, second one with the squares of the first list up to the result 2116. Then i just summed all the values up, and there it was...
