"this site isn't really dead" - Well, it pretty much is. No new challenges or puzzles have been added in a very long time. A lot of stuff is broken by now and does not get fixed. I would call that pretty much dead to be honest.

1.) The (34) at the beginning is supposed to be a hint. It is not actually part of the text which is to be deciphered here. To be honest, this hint is not really helping much with anything though.
2.) What kind of algorithms make something smaller?

I think that is the only reasonable solution at this point. If adum does not have the time, then somebody else should be given access to fix what is broken.

This challenge seems to be broken. The only person who can repair it is adum, since no one else has access. Please write a mail to him and ask him to fix it: adum at adum dot com

The proper solution would be to bring this game to HTML5 instead. I don't think that is going to happen though. There is nobody who maintains this site except for adum, and it seems pretty much like he has abandoned it.

Well, it seems that he does not give anybody access to this site. Then there will of course be nobody there to help with running and updating it. I did ask if I could help, but to no avail.
